What I Learned at the United Nations

May 09, 20242 min read

These are crazy times we are living in. It kind of feels like insanity on steroids. And, I feel we are actually rising up for a new beginning, and these times are the completion of our lower-state tendencies driven by a combination of our five senses and fear. We have so much more in us beyond that realm. There is so much more to be, to share, and to become. Heart-powered and soul-driven, I see a future that we co-create, one that is in alignment with the human spirit that knows only love, collaboration, deep connections, compassion, care, and kindness.

I felt a glimpse of that in March, attending the 68th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. It was an amazing experience to be part of a global event, one that I had read about for years, that brings heads of state, NGOs, and delegates from across the globe to close the gender gap between women and men. The gender gap hurts us all and represents our greatest opportunity to transform our lives and the world.

As we close the gender gap, we see more peaceful and prosperous people and regions throughout the world. I have worked for decades to close the gender gap, and I know that as people become more aware and conscious of it, they are more likely to organically become agents of change and transformation. That is my goal. That we become a united force of humanitarians, peaceful, caring, and enthusiastic about all that we have in common and all that we do not. That we lift one another up. We recognize that each of us is here to share our unique gifts with the world and fulfill our unique purpose. That we all deserve equal access to resources and opportunities and that we trust one another to make our own life-determining decisions.

I created a 4-part video series (7-12 minutes per video) plus an introductory video (10 minutes) sharing the experience of the 68th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and key points made at each of the extraordinary sessions I attended. I cover Constitutional Inequality in America for women, Economic Inequality, Gender-Based Violence, and Freedom to show the cost of being a woman is too darn high.

I say it often: how it goes for women, goes the state, the nation, and the world. With more heart, we see this clearly. So please open yours and remember the women of Afghanistan who need our ongoing support and find opportunities to heighten your awareness about gender equality throughout the world and share what you learn.

Sometimes, you have to step back to move forward.

After 25 years in Corporate America, I turned in a new direction. I began supporting others on their journey to better health and wellness. I was on the path myself. I had come to know early on in my life through the loss of my very young mother that the best gift we can give ourselves and those we love is our own well-being.

Social justice has been a life-long passion. I’m hopeful we will achieve gender equality soon. Peace and prosperity are only possible when all of us have equal access to resources and opportunities. Limiting anyone based on demographics; gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, etc., limits us all.
